Traverse City is located in the greater northern region of Michigan. Surrounded by fresh water, dunes, vineyards and lush green forests, Traverse City is truly "The Heart of Nature's Playground." Just north of Traverse City is The Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Traverse City was named "most beautiful place in America" by Good Morning America this year (2011).
There is always something going on in downtown Traverse City. In early July the National Cherry Festival is celebrated. Traverse City has also become home to the Traverse City Film Festival located at the State Theatre downtown TC. Throughout the spring/summer/fall months a local farmers market takes place in downtown Traverse City as well. Local farmers and artisians bring seasonal goods to sell every Wednesday and Saturday. This is a local favorite for sure.
From alluring inland lakes to magnificent bays, Grand Traverse and Leelanua counties are known for there abundance of fresh water and beaches. This provides many opportunities for water sports, fishing or just taking in the view beachside.
Munson Medical Center, Traverse City's local hospital has been ranked 13 times as one of the nations top 100 hospitals. Munson has a level II trauma center and an award winning heart center. Munson has an amazing oncology center and is currently working towards opening one of Michigan’s largest cancer treatment centers.
Traverse City Area Public Schools is a very strong, tightly knit school system. The parent involvement rate is very high and the teachers are hand chosen for excellence, many of which, are nationally recognized educators. The greater Traverse City area is also home to many Montessori programs as well as charter and religious based school systems that are nationally recognized as well.
